The interviews I read about were a little different. What they talked about how hard it was to get a job during this time and they were not getting paid a lot. This part of time was very hard to live in. A lot of people didn't have jobs, and didn't have money. And even the few people who did have jobs, were being payed very low and unfairly. Mr. Garavelli was a stone cutter during the great depression. He stalked about how he was smart and that even though "Lots of stonecutters die from the silica.". He claims that he was smart and worked in a bench were there was little silica, and that he avoided it. http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/wpaintro/garavel.html
Chris thorsten, a construction worker, claims that "You ain't an Iron worker unless you get killed...Men hurt on all jobs." He goes on to talk about how on the job he had broken all his ribs and his collar bone in a crane accident. http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/wpaintro/thorsten.html. This interview is about Ms. Marie Haggerty who is a 72 year old maid. She lives in Massachusetts. The date of this interview was on February 20, 1939 and the interviewer was Mrs. Emily Moore. When asked when she was a maid did she mainly do housework, Haggerty responded with "But my dear, it wasn't housework I did...I was a nurse maid or a second girl--never just an ordinary girl out to service."http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/wpaintro/marie.html
